Best Beaches in Mazatlan
1. Isla de la Piedra (Stone Island)
Looking for an escape from the busy resort city of Mazatlan? There's a quaint little island (a peninsula, really) that's a favorite among day-trippers and those who prefer to explore more rustic Mexican beaches.
Stone Island lies just south of the busier tourist areas, and most who come either do so in search of an empty hammock under the shade or a seat at one of the many thatched-roof eateries that offer excellent views of the beaches and the Pacific.
Though it's possible to get here by car, many people prefer the more scenic route via tour boat or ferry.
Much to DoThough, at first glance, Stone Island may seem like it's outfitted only for those looking to kick back and relax, nothing could be further from the truth. Many area businesses cash in on the preferences of tourists and rent out water sports equipment and other items, so this can be a great spot for those who love to snorkel, kayak, ride horses, play volleyball or surf.
Another favorite activity of tourists is simply exploring the miles of quiet beaches on Stone Island, getting to know the rustic town and friendly residents.
Drinks and EatsThere are a few renowned eateries worth checking out on Stone Island. The theme here is open and airy—nearly all of them made are in the palapa style, so if it's al fresco dining you like, that's what you'll get.
Try a local beer or a cold, freshly mixed cocktail while the breeze rolls through, or chow down on some pizza, seafood or any number of excellent Mexican dishes.

2. Playa Camaron/Playa Gaviotas
As the major stars of the resort city of Mazatlan, high-spirited Playa Gaviotas and its calmer counterpart, Playa Camaron, boast luxury resorts, incomparable eats, swinging nightlife and long, relaxing days in the sand.
Being located right smack in the middle of the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone)—the hippest, most happening place in Mazatlan—certainly helps the two beaches build such a reputation. But then there's the warm, calm waters and the seductive sunsets that add to the beaches' allure.
Taking in the SightsGet to know both beaches by strolling the sand, starting from the tip of Playa Camaron to the north, and heading south past the high-rise hotels in Playa Gaviotas.
When you reach the end, you'll be at the Malecón, the seaside promenade where locals and tourists enjoy walking, jogging and biking while getting awesome views of mountains in the distance.
These two beaches offer all kinds of water sports activities, including windsurfing, parasailing and bodyboarding, to name just a few.
Splashing around in the waves for a few hours can build up your appetite, but no problem—the Golden Zone is home to some amazing eateries boasting tons of culinary options for hungry travelers. Joe's Oyster Bar is a favorite with its two-for-one drinks specials all day.
Evening ExcitementLater on, after spending some time admiring the awe-inspiring sunset, you'll want to catch a bit of the nightlife action. Valentino's is quite a sight with its bright, castle-like exterior and loud rhythms.
For something more low-key, head to one of the cafes along Avenida Camarón Sábalo, a long stretch of businesses ready to impress visitors.
