1. Orient Bay Beach
Those revisiting renowned Orient Bay Beach after Hurricane Irma may not recognize it — most of the colorful beach bars along the sand were swept away in the storm. But efforts to rebuild are underway, and in the meantime, the beach itself is as beautiful as ever, with lovely blue water and powdery sands.
In years past, this beach garnered accolades from USA Today and Conde Nast Traveler. No doubt recovery efforts will help restore it to its former glory — we hope sooner rather than later.
Bare it allLocated on the eastern coast of St. Martin, the Caribbean island's French half, Orient Bay Beach has a reputation as a haven for nude sunbathers. That's due in part to European cultural influence, but proximity to naturist resort Club Orient is also undoubtedly a contributing factor. Don't feel pressured to take it all off – plenty of people stay fully covered.
ActivitiesAlong this two-mile stretch, you'll find many excellent snorkeling spots, thanks to healthy offshore reefs and calm waves. Aquatic life is especially abundant near Caye Verte (Green Key), a small island just offshore.
Water sports operators can hook you up with jet skis, sailboats and other equipment you need to make the most of your time in the water. Vendors are also handy when you need to rent chairs and umbrellas.
